Children's Services Fund
Families with children turn to the public library for help and support in a number of ways, and programs exist to help those from birth through high school.
Opportunities are varied and provide students a greater understanding of topics as diverse as computer or Internet use, music, art, hobbies, or even preparation for postsecondary education.
Examples of programs that may be supported through the fund include:
- "First Generation College" program that would involve university and college recruiters who visit libraries and talk to students who would be the first in their families to attend post-high school education. Primarily for students living in poverty, it could include college prep or ACT prep classes at the library, and would also target first generation Americans.
- "Literacy through Theatre" program for school-age children and their parents.
- "Books into Homes" program to give books to children that meet their Summer Library Program reading goals.
- A series of interactive virtual field trips, such as a visit to the Great Barrier Reef. These would allow interactive discussion between viewers and presenters as if they were in the same room.
If you and your family would like to make a major gift to support or endow a Children's Services Fund program, please contact Phyllis Davis, SCLS Director, 608 246-7975.
